Career Paths

We know that building one’s own business is difficult – perhaps nearly impossible without having the help and support of knowledgeable and experienced resources. At Northwestern Mutual – Inland Northwest, our leadership and development team is made up of dedicated professionals, all with the common objective of helping our financial representatives achieve their goals, as they are helping clients achieve theirs.

We believe that a strong, supportive network office helps financial representatives achieve success resulting in a truly amazing future. The strength of our network office begins with each representative and staff member adopting and embracing our core values of Family, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence (F.I.R.E.), and demonstrating those values in all we do. Our cohesive unit of leaders, mentors, coaches, and support staff work in collaboration with each financial representative in our network in order to provide the foundation and education needed to build a thriving business.

The career path of a financial representative depends upon a number of factors including personal drive, commitment, skills, and experience. We provide continuous training and opportunities for advancement through specialization and leadership training. Everyone’s career path is unique, so our independent financial representatives control the choices they make to help direct and further their careers.

Specialization - The opportunity to specialize in market niches such as retirement planning, life insurance, disability income, long-term care, annuities, investments, and more. Representatives may also choose to become financial advisors of Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, LLC or wealth management advisors of Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company®.

Leadership - The opportunity for career advancement through the recruitment, development and retention of fellow representatives by opening new offices, strengthening existing ones, and supplying the overall structure and support to maintain and grow the Network. A representative can maintain his/her own practice while helping other representatives build new ones. Leadership opportunities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership through Education, Achievement & Development Program (L.E.A.D.): Provides access to an exclusive training curriculum that will help representatives develop the skills needed to take on a leadership role within their network office.
  • College Unit Director (CUD): Leads a group of energized college interns. Read more about our top-rated internship program.
  • Field Director (FD): Assists in the recruitment and selection process in order to build a cohesive unit of productive full-time financial representatives.
  • Growth & Development Director (GDD): Grow an integrated personal practice while also being responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining successful financial representatives.
  • Managing Director (MD): Takes on the unique challenge of balancing personal production and managing a district network office.
  • Managing Partner (MP): Creates a vision and is responsible for the overall success of a network office.

Northwestern Mutual financial representatives have the opportunity to determine their own financial futures while making an impact on others.
